Design story:
We asked our master dyer, Ashraf what inspires him. He said Kites and Starfish. Why kites?
He grew up in the old city of Jaipur. He spent his whole childhood flying and catching kites in the streets of Jaipur. Sometimes he would go to the top of Nahargarh Fort to fly a kite, and it would feel like he was in heaven above the city. He calls this time the best time of his life, doing what he loves to do. He refers to kites as his first love. "neela patang mera favorite hai" (blue-colored kites are his favorites).
We have seen the childhood through the joy visible in his eyes as he would tell us about it. We asked Ashraf to dye kite-shaped patterns on fabrics that geometrically portray how kites fill the sky on Makar Sakranti in Jaipur. He was so happy after dyeing it that he wanted a little part of the fabric to keep with himself, which he would cherish for his life.
